Why do we celebrate Holi?

He became arrogant and demanded that everyone in his kingdom worship him as a god. However, his own son, Prahlada, refused to do so, because he believed in the Hindu god Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu tried many times to kill Prahlada, but each time, Vishnu protected him.

Finally, Hiranyakashipu asked Prahlada where Vishnu was, and Prahlada pointed to a pillar. Hiranyakashipu struck the pillar with his mace, and Vishnu emerged from it in the form of a man-lion hybrid called Narasimha. Narasimha killed Hiranyakashipu and saved Prahlada. The story of Hiranyakashipu and Prahlada is remembered and celebrated during Holi.
